I hope everyone had a fantastic New Years, with the closure of 2020 and the awareness of something greater for 2021. Maybe it felt like pure celebration from finally scaling a 10-times-more-treacherous Mount Everest OR perhaps the change of the year brought a certain soothing contentment – – both may result from checking off a success, like CLEARING THE MASSIVE HURDLE OF 2020 AND STILL GOING!! Wherever your mindset lies at this time, I hope you find yourselves imagining (and reimagining) what 2021 can be for you and everything that you can (and will!!) create moving forward.
I wrote a post a few months ago about choosing a superpower that would fulfill us the most, no matter what it was. And listening to the WHY behind this choice because that has the potential to show a lot about our character, our values, our priorities, and perhaps even what is truly important in our lives. Or it could just be something totally absurd and show off our wild antics, there are no limits to the imagination!
Yet, many of these particular superpowers aren’t possible YET. Like humans flying, teleporting themselves, and being invisible. Not to my knowledge, anyways!! I haven’t gotten out much lately so maybe I missed something. That is VERY possible!! 😜
As we begin this powerful year of 2021, I would like to take this time to expand on the word, SUPERPOWER.
First of all, my observation of this word, besides it being a mystical or magical ability that can be hard or impossible to come by unless we’re in a movie, is that SUPERPOWERS show up more regularly than we think!!
Therefore, I would like to praise and further acknowledge the incredible beings in our lives that defy the odds, stand out like shining stars, and rise above any less-than standards or preconceived limitations. Those who make a point to disregard or minimize the outside noise (to the best of their ability) and hold their own intuition and standards in such high esteem, with their sights focused on being their very best and making a difference in this world. 🌎
Doctors/nurses/medical staff, teachers, mentors, counselors, students, noble officers of the law, firefighters, essential workers, adventurers, lovers, (not fighters, unless you fight with good intentions😉), family member(s), friend(s)……those who have a gift and share it with the world as a good or a service……those who dedicate themselves to their work for the benefit of others…….those who are involved in customer service, community service, and public service, and those who know how rewarding and valuable it is to help our fellow humans and to lend a hand to those in need……and to those who have overcome insidious circumstances, trauma, injuries, and unbelievable pain/loss/grief AND YET carry on to live fully, to the best of their abilities, and devote their lives to helping others in the process.
This encapsulates all of us, somewhere in there. Or in MORE than one place, perhaps?!?!?! (YES!!)
Think of where you fit in. You and me. And of all of the people we know who fall into one or more of these categories. Because these qualities ALSO embody what it means to be a superhero being with SUPERPOWERS:
To move through life with grace, integrity, value, kindness, and love. And to share this goodness with those around us whenever possible, despite the noise and the adversity, and even if (and especially if) no one is looking.
May we continue to KNOW and to BE superhero beings and to use our SUPERPOWERS wisely!!!!!! 😍🌟♥️🤩
Secondly, speaking of “using our SUPERPOWERS wisely,” this leads me to my next observation:
The word, PURPOSE.
This could be considered the meaning of life. This could be thought of as our life’s work or our mission OR the very reason we choose to get up each and every day instead of staying in bed, under the covers.
Maybe it is all of these things.
I used to think that we search for our PURPOSE as we get older and gain experiences. Like we’re on a treasure hunt and we stumble upon a chest of gold, we follow our path and along the way we find our PURPOSE and what we want “to do with our life.”
However, now I realize that I was looking at it in the reverse order. We don’t spontaneously come across our PURPOSE one day, finding it on the street or at a job or in the car or on our next vacation. Rather, it is something that we are born with. It is something that resides WITHIN US, whether we are aware of it or not. And it is something that waits to be uncovered and found by us, as we gain those experiences and as we live our lives. Because those feelings produced from our experiences and events in our lives can speak to our very souls, make us feel alive, create surges of energy through the channels of the body, and they give us a wake-up call that resonates deeply within us.
THIS is when our PURPOSE is found, is tangible, and is known.
Our existence on this planet MATTERS. Yours and mine. And we each have a skill, a talent, or a gift that this world needs. This purpose, which often serves others as well as ourselves, is what lights the fire within and gives us a meaningful reason to keep going when things get so incredibly hard.
Like Chadwick Boseman says, PURPOSE is the reason that we are here in the first place. AND talk about a real-life superhero!! Chadwick Boseman graced this world with his heart and his magnanimous presence, influencing and inspiring with his work and his aura, while fighting a battle that very few people knew about. And yet he never let that interfere in the life he was determined to create. He left us with his undeniable superpowers at which we marvel, we honor, and we aspire to reach such a level of greatness in our own lives. Such a supreme talent and a genuine and remarkable being, gone too soon.
And a definite superhero to emulate because he brought joy, courage, and inspiration wherever he went and he continued to live his purpose until his final breath.
We will not find our PURPOSE anywhere else but inside ourselves. And whether we choose to search within, build that awareness, and uncover our gift(s) to this world…..well, that is our choice, isn’t it?? Because it is there, whether we choose to believe it isn’t or we choose to ignore and avoid its existence – – it has already been there since Day 1.
And to let our gifts go to waste would be a detriment to the world, you know??? It would also be a detriment to us, in our own lives. See, on a podcast yesterday, I heard this quote by Stephen Cope:
“The effort to bring forth what is within you is what saves you. If you do not bring forth what is within in, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.”
Stephen Cope is saying that we will feel the effects of not showing up and fulfilling our PURPOSE. It will lead to complaining, misery, suffering, and, like he says, it will destroy us. Because PURPOSE is who we are, our inner selves, and it yearns and deserves to be seen and shared. Otherwise, it festers and remains hidden, leaving us feeling small, unseen, drained, and many times lost. Stephen Cope suggests that it’s more just a shame to leave your PURPOSE untapped. Rather, it’s destructive NOT to, which means it is necessary and critical for us to put forth the effort to fulfill what is inside us. No more “it’s inconvenient,” “I have no time,” or “I’m too busy.” No more excuses.

Doesn’t that just shift the perspective of how important it is for us to be who we truly are and really show up with full force and effort towards our PURPOSE???
And I believe that PURPOSE can be synonymous with SUPERPOWER. That magic inside of us that only we have, that only we create, and that only we can offer. There is nothing more special than that.
Maybe we can call it a SUPER-PURPOSE!! (Or a PURPERPOWER??? Noooo, that’s terrible…. a POWERPOSE!!! Oooooh, maybe that one….I’ll keep thinking! 😉😄)
Whatever we care to call it, the world is calling upon us to show up. Not in a year, or in a few months….NOW. And we can begin to cultivate our SUPER-PURPOSE by first acknowledging that It. Is. There.
And that we matter.
And that we can make a difference.
And that 2021 can be the perfect place and time to start, to begin again, or to continue on – – – lift the veil, rev the engine, and choose something greater.
